MEMBERSHIP POLICIES
Welcome to Breton Bay Golf and Country Club. We are dedicated to providing quality recreational facilities for your enjoyment. As we strive to improve our facilities, your support will ensure our continued success.
Breton Bay Recreation, Inc. manages and operates the recreational facilities of Breton Bay Golf and Country Club. The Corporation is publicly held and is governed by an elected 9- member Board of Directors. The Breton Bay recreational facilities consist of a golf course, clubhouse, tennis courts and swimming pool. Operation of the recreational facilities is the responsibility of our General Manager, Mr. Robert Arnold under the direction of the Board of Directors. Mr. Arnold is also our Head Golf Professional. The swimming pool is managed by Mr. Ben Peterson. The tennis courts are managed by Mr. Russ Carrington, the club Tennis Professional. The Ironwood Grill is managed by Mrs. Mary Lou Lumpkins. Our Facilities Maintenance and Greens Superintendent is Mr. Bernie Beavan. Memberships and financial matters are handled by Mrs. Kathleen Crain, the Business Manager.
Club member committees exist for golf, swim, tennis, membership, and social activities. The committees plan and conduct special recreational and social functions for our members. The heads of club member committees are recommended by the General Manager and approved by the Board of Directors. The General Manager will be responsible for oversight of the committees. Each committee chairman will be responsible to report directly to the appropriate manager. Each committee will be responsible for submitting its plans, schedules and budget requirements to the Board of Directors via the General Manager.
We also have Men’s and Ladies’ Golf Associations. These associations are not connected with the club committees and are self-governed. They also conduct special recreational and social functions for their members. Your participation in the committees and associations is welcome.
The swimming pool and tennis courts are open only to members, their paying guests, and employees. Swim team participants must be pool members and tennis camp participants must be tennis members. Special functions such as tournaments, special classes, swim meets, or other functions that permit member and non-member utilization of these facilities are permitted upon approval by the respective managers.
The golf course is open to the general public. The golf course is also available for use (including exclusive use) by groups of individuals (member or non-member) at such times as deemed by the General Manager as in the best interests of the Corporation. Exclusive use of the golf course by non-member groups (in which members or other patrons are not permitted use of the golf course) is not permitted before noon on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays. Exclusive use tournaments at other times are scheduled and approved by the Golf Professional. Exclusive use tournaments by member groups before noon on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and holidays can be approved by the General Manager. Bikes, skateboards, and personal motorized vehicles are not permitted on the golf course at any time. Walkers and joggers must be off the golf course between 7:30 am and sunset. Bikes, skateboards, and personal motorized vehicles are permitted on club property only as a means of transportation to club facilities, not for personal recreation.
Rules of use and operation of the recreational facilities are the responsibility of the General Manager. Working with the committee chairs, Maintenance Superintendent, and other managers, the General Manager has the authority to establish rules of use and operation as well as approve exception to such rules as deemed appropriate.

The General Manager or other managers are granted authority to refuse service or access to the facilities to any individual(s) where such action is deemed in the best interests of the Corporation.
When applicable, a non-refundable initiation fee for each new membership is due and payable upon acceptance of membership application. Applications may be reviewed by our Membership Committee. You may begin use of the facilities and will receive your membership card once your application is reviewed and/or accepted. After 3 years, the full initiation fee, when applicable, will be required to rejoin. The initiation and reinstatement fees are established each year by the Board of Directors.
Memberships are on an annual basis and are payable, in full, regardless of frequency of use by the member. The club membership year runs April 1st through March 31st of the following year. Membership dues may be refunded in cases where a member makes a permanent move outside of St. Mary’s County, or in case of death or disability of a member, or when a bona fide hardship situation occurs. The decision to grant a refund or forgive a portion of membership dues shall be at the sole discretion of the Board of Directors. If a refund is deemed appropriate, refunds will be based on a percentage of the membership year used.
A membership type may be upgraded during the membership year, on a prorated basis, to one of higher membership dues. A membership may not be downgraded to one of lower cost during the membership year. Members who upgrade their memberships and who paid initiation fees for a lower category of membership must pay the difference between what they paid and, if applicable, the prevailing initiation fee at time of upgrade.
The Board of Directors may choose to grant exception to any of these policies on either a one-time basis or for a long-term basis where such action is deemed in the best interest of the Corporation.
